What is broody?

Well I had me a little scare yesterday and from the help of all here I found out that my hen is broody. I have to make her go outside and eat, shut the coop up so she can't get back in. I am so glad she isn't sick.
Now the next question. What can I expect from her? Will she continue to lay eggs or is she done for now and just wants to sit. She is a Barred Rock.

Until she's done being broody she will not lay eggs. There are many methods you can try (wire cages, baths, etc) but in my limited experience you still have to wait it out or give her some eggs
