What is does this noise mean? (Video)

Hey BYC! my duckling started making this noise while she preens herself ontop of her peep. She doesn't do it all the the time and she is not acting abnormal at all. I'm just curious what this means. Listen carefully!

Is she between 2 and 4 weeks old?

I think she is getting her big girl voice.

Ours started with what I called peep-honk.

My friends duck makes that noise, also (its a little deeper sounding). The duck , Quacky, mostly does that when she is exited or nervous. I dont think there is anything necessarily wrong with it, especially if she isnt acting abnormal.

I dont know. It could just be one of those *things* that birds do.

She is two weeks old tomorrow! that is the only reason I doubted her getting her honk already. Is that what it is supposed to start off sounding like?

My friends duck ... I think she is pretty healthy. My friend , he and his wife, go out of town a bunch. We live fairly close to their house, and take care of her when they are gone. Shes pretty much my only interaction with ducks.

Anyway, to your question!

I dont know that much about ducks, but I know they are similar to chickens in most respects. From what I can tell, my friends duck is normal.

I think Amiga is right (she is apparently overrun with runners

) about starting to honk
