I decided I wanted to hatch some of my hen's eggs, and didn't want to wait until my silkie chicks were old enough to go broody. So I asked around for an incubator I could borrow, and came across a gentleman who offered to hatch the eggs for me.

The eggs are a week along, and 8/11 are developing, so I'm very excited! He offered to do this for me for free, since he has eggs of his own that he is hatching, but I don't feel like that is fair to him. If you were hatching eggs for someone else, what would you expect as fair compensation? I want to make a friend here, and maybe take advantage of his incubator again.

I'm doing the same thing, he asked for $5 a dozen or 40% of the hatch. I went with the $5

He's not taking care of them or anything! Yikes

I paid .55 cents per egg to have some incubated a little while back... I thought that was a fair and reasonable price.

Thank you for the suggestions! Is there anything besides money that you have appreciated receiving, or have given to a hatcher? I wouldn't mind paying him, but like I said, I want to make a friend. I was thinking maybe a plate of cookies? I know he's not interested in any of the chicks and has eggs of his own... so looking for ideas.

I think that is an awsome idea.He was not looking for anything in return so I think it would be a wonderful surprise for him.More personal and friendly .
