My entire coop seems to have gender confusion. My boys were the first beasts to sing the egg song and have never stopped. I've got a girl who's suddenly decided she needs to crow the light in every morning next to the boys. (She can't cock-a-doodle-doo, she just goes "Ooooooock!") Sometimes they ALL sing the egg song together in some god-awful cacophany out in the coop and no one's a) lost or b) laid an egg.

What on earth is going on?!?

If this confuses you, wait until you find your roosters in the nest boxes, chirping contentedly.

Gender roles are a human construct. Much of the animal kingdom, including humans, swap, share, blur, and sometimes flip gender roles.

When all is said and done, fluid gender roles actually contribute to a cohesive and well functioning flock.

You might find this fascinating. https://bitchinchickens.com/2019/11/04/sex-gender-chimerism/

Without getting political, I thought these were sex based behaviors. Thanks for the article!! :)
It is not political to understand there is a correlation the vast majority of the time between some behaviors and biological sex. And for the entirety of human history except for the last decade, no one would have thought it to be political to make that comment. I only have one chicken that crows and it’s the rooster.
