What is the reason you wanted sex links? Most of us who have Buff Orpingtons among our flocks wouldn't trade them for anything. They are sweet chickens; calm, friendly, and beautiful.

Well, I wanted sex links because I bought 4 RIR pullets in early March only to learn in mid-May that I had 4 Production Red roosters! All that time and TLC, waiting in vain for eggs that will never come...
I thought that by buying sex links I would guarantee the sex of my purchases. According to the fellow that sold these to me, Wilco Farm Store in Newberg, Oregon had them labeled as Gold Sex Links.
Thank you guys for your encouraging words about Buff Orpingtons!
I've always loved the name. These girls ARE beautiful, with their creamy gold color and very quiet ways. I'll keep them, thanks to your positive comments. I'm sure I'll fall in love with them, too.

When buying chicks from stores like TSC and such. Never trust the labels or what the person says they are. They are notorious for having them mislabeled and/or not knowing anything about them.
I saw a guy selling chicks at TSC using the feet dangle method of sexing straight run Red Sexlinks.

It appears that you were only buying sex links because you wanted to be sure that you would get pullets this round. Well, you got four pullets and one roo. That's O.K. odds. Can you keep the roo? He is quite a handsome fellow.
You will love the Buff Orpingtons I am sure. Consider yourself lucky. They might have all been BO roosters!
Let us know in a few months how your BO girls work out. I think you'll be singing their praises like the rest of us.
