What is going on with my hen?

Just looking for everyone's two cents. My barred rock Laverne, who is usually the sweetest bird, lowest on the totem pole, vey gentle and cheerful is acting weirdly. Last evening she was walking around the run, straining as if she was going to sit down, but then after about 5 minutes of this laid an egg (perfectly normal egg). But she seems very grumpy and is making a kind of growling noise (one of my other - cranky - barred rock makes this sound all the time but Laverne never has). She was fluffed up on the roost last night and wasnt making any of her usual cooing noises when I talked to her. She ate/drank this morning but is pacing and growling and I even saw her have a go at one of the other rocks (who usually goes after her), it is like she has PMS. But I did find a broken soft shelled egg up in the roost this morning (but I have 6 hens), but this happens now and then (they have their own eggshells and microna calcium carbonate). They are all 2 years old, never have had health issues, free range a few hours a day. I felt to see if she had a stuck egg but could not feel anything (I am no expert though). I am worried about her - she is my favorite, she comes running and flapping at 50 feet to greet me, and generally just such a ditsy friendly little sweetheart I just cant have her sick. Any thoughts?

She is broody. Specifically a clucking broody since she isn’t sitting on eggs. She should be broken because other hens will sometimes attack a clucking broody

Oh thank you both! I wasnt thinking that as I thought that was only in the spring - I am immensely relieved. Thank you again! :D

What breed is she? Some breeds are much harder to break than others. My silkie demeter was broody for 96 days despite many attempts to break her
