What is going on with this hen?

No mites, No lice, No rooster, no fighting...so what could be going on with her? She is the only one with missing feathers. It is on her lower back before her tail. She is only 25 weeks old and has been laying for 8 weeks now. We have new clean coop and run.She is fed purina layena, scratch and scraps. Lots of excercise room and fresh sunshine. Able to go in coop whenever she wants to. Fresh water always. Any ideas?

Maybe a mini molt. We've had a few that lost feathers just in a small area like that. Ours lost the feathers on the neck and front.

UMMMMM...........do you have a roo?? They will tear up a hen fast breeding. They grab hold of those feathers and I think they forget to let go when they have done their business!

I would say she catches your roo's fancy!

She is still layi..can she still lay eggs and molt?

I'm new to this, but could the other hens be pulling out her feathers? I know once one starts they all follow. If you have blu-kote put that on her (and on the feathers surrounding the bare spot). Something that will taste nasty to the other hens if they are pulling out her feathers. Hope this helps.
