What is going on

I would stop the corn completely and only think of feeding some in extreme low winter temperatures.

Better to keep feeding starter/ grower feed and just ad a separate dish of oyster shells for those already laying.
And always carefully check the feed bags for milling dates and strange odour or mold and insects.
What bad about the corn? I will just to see if that’s what’s causing this but I have always fed my chickens corn mixed in with their feed even my parents did it that way and we never had any complications.. I’ll do anything though so no issue just curious what makes it not a good idea

Corn is very high in carbohydrates but does not provide protein, aminoacids, vitamins and other essential nutrients a healthy diet should include.

So feeding corn will lead to malnourished and poorly laying chickens with a fat pad on their lower abdomen and excessice fat accumulated around their inner organs. Fatty liver disease/sudden death caused by a ruptured liver is often seen.

Only in very cold temperatures do chickens need some extra carbohydrates in the evening to keep them warm at night.

Some poultry feeds contain lots of corn as corn is the cheapest ingredient, so always check the list of ingredients carefully.
