What is good bedding for my duck?

I was using pine shavings & now using cedar shavings. Smells good but worried about big chunks.

Cedar is a no no for Poultry.

The aromas of cedar are too harsh for small animal lungs. Ideally, it wouldn't be sold as animal bedding in my opinion.


I'm trying to picture a house duck.
Sounds simultaneously heartwarming and terribly filthy lol.

OK, here's the scoop. Quackers stays in his rubbermaid tote in the house. Gets to go out in the yard for his playtime & bath. We are working with duck diapers so he can be free for a while in the house. When I'm here of course.

I'm new to this but I did read that a duck should never be kept alone. There should always be at least two ducks because they are social and they get very lonely when alone. They need at least one friend at all times, that's just what I read. ‍

The oils and fumes from cedar are quite hard on many animals. We used to put cedar chips down in areas where we had seen scorpions in our backyard when we lived in the desert. They were said to deter adult scorpions and to kill juvenile scorpions by overwhelming their respiratory systems. If it can deter or kill scorpions, which are pretty near bulletproof, it can’t be good for birds or small animals. We used cedar fence slats to side parts of the outside of our duck house, but used plywood on the inside and painted it inside and out.

I like shavings TSC has it and most feed stores sell it baked.
