FYI, to quote someone’s post and respond, click “quote” then “reply” and start typing your response at the end of the quoted language that will appear at the top of the new reply box. That will make it easier to tell who and whatever you are responding to. Every website is different and it took me a while to figure out how this one works.

I use straw in my duck house and run, but ducks are messy and poop a lot, so I have to keep adding to it. I let it compost in place for a while before moving it to my compost pile or using it to mulch my garden. When my ducks had to be indoors to recover during the winter, I put them in the bathtub and kept adding layer after layer of newspaper as it got soiled. Then, when I put the ducks into a crate to take them to the vet, I rolled up all the layers of newspaper and put it in the compost and laid fresh paper. Having my ducks inside was a huge amount of work.
If you are keeping your duck indoors long term, you may want to sprinkle Sweet PDZ stall refresher into her bedding to reduce the fumes.

I'd use straw and toss the cedar as it's dangerous for poultry, then get a companion duck so you have a pair.
How long is your duck in the tote every day?
Shavings...The others rot quickly from the Ducks poop. You only have one Duck? Ducks definitely need other Ducks to become proper Ducks.Which is better pine shavings or straw? Can I use timothy grass? If I get another duck, I don't think Quackers would be so friendly. I talk to him & pet him. He seems fine.
