What is hatching rate of silkies?

Chickintexas, I got them from browneyebuttafly from this site. You can look her up on here and see if she has any more that she is selling. She did a great job of packing them. Not 1 broken or cracked.

There are several members that have them. I think it just depends on the PO wether you have a good hatch or not. Shipping is hard on eggs period.

But, if you get 40% I think your doing great. If your wanting 6 then I would at least order 12, 18 to be on the safe side!

Your best bet is to find someone close and just pick up the eggs.

My first try on silkies that were shipped from a very short distance was not good 6 out of 30.

I'm going to try one more time but I don't think they do as well as other shipped eggs.

I just picked up 18 from the PO I'm putting them in today so I'll let you know we should have a May Hatch-a-long thread I'll be in there.

I purchased 6, was shipped 8...alll 8 developed and 6 hatched. Two didn't make it out of their shells, was due to humidity. So, I had 100% on shipped eggs for what I purchased. I don't think most silkies have hatching issues like other breeds. Marans tend to be harder to hatch... I haven't seen that with silkies.

As another poster said though, feel lucky to get 50% with shipped eggs. That is more typical to what I hatch.

my last maran hatch went terrible 2 out of 19 but as far as I know silkies don't have a leathal gene like the Japanese or the marans so you don't have to take in the account 25% won't hatch.... sometimes the eggs get x-rayed at the PO I think that is one of the biggest issues with shipped eggs.
