I know it'll require a long post from anybody who chooses to respond, but I would really appreciate a breaking down of how you get into showing ducks, and what is involved in the actual showing. Details are appreciated.

i posted about a montha ago asking he same questions and got no answers

. . . .i am sorry but i dont know anything

It's not rocket surgery.
Locate an upcoming show-contact the show secretary for an entry form-mail in your entry & entry fee. The morning of the show you may want to oil the duck's legs & bill. Trim nails if needed. That's all you usually have to do for ducks since they're self cleaning. When you get to the show you'll be given an exhibitor list that will let you locate where your birds go [let the show staff know it's your first show-someone will help you]. Put your birds in the right cages & the birds & judges will do the rest. DON'T water the ducks until after the judging-they'll make a mess in the cage.
That's abou it.

Maybe I'm too sensitive, but was the "it's not rocket surgery" meant to imply that it's something I should not have to ask about?

Anyway...
How does one locate these shows?

I've heard things about legbands... are those needed, where do you get them, what is their point?

What about after everything has been judged... do you just take your bird and leave?

Haha I think you mixed up rocket science and brain surgery.

Haha-I think I knew exactly what I was writing. I deliberately combine the two. Haha.

I don't want to risk offending you further so I hope someone else can help you.

I think they were just saying that there isn't too much involved with it, you just take your birds, make them look good, and leave with hopefully awards!

You could do a search for poultry shows and contests in your state.

I think these are just for breeders to identify their individual birds in a flock, usually at a show they have little signs on the cages with the information about the bird.

Never been to one, but I would say that seems logical.

When I say it, I mean it more in the sense of "oh yeah you can for sure do this, don't worry, it's not very complicated and there's no reason to get stressed and intimidated about it" - smiley implied

Thanks for starting the topic.

So, the cages - they're at the venue already? you don't bring your own? What do folks use to transport birds, dog crates or something? What kind of oil to spiff up the beaks and feet, would that be olive or canola or...?
