What is it about Guinea eggs ..... ?

I've been trying for days to score some mixed-color guinea eggs on eBay with no luck. I realize that they are awesome tick eaters, but is this the big reason for the frantic bidding and the big prices? They really are ODD birds, not the normal backyard fowl. I dunno -- guess I'm just frustrated at my lack of success.

Anyone else ever have this trouble getting hatching eggs for a fowl you really want?

How many are you looking for? We just happen to be "sitting on" some Guinea eggs at the moment. We have mixed and white. We will have jumbo's in the near future, they are just now starting to lay good and we are checking fertility

Thanks Steve --- I'm looking for about a dozen or so ..... just don't wanna pay an arm and a leg for them!

This will be my first try with guineas, but I think they're cool birds and will make a great addition to my menagerie.

There's a guy in Franklin, IN that sells them for $10 doz. I don't know if he ships.

My sister bought some pheasent eggs from him, and had great fertility.

Guineas or guinea eggs are no where to be found around here (including from my own guineas!

). While they are big ugly things, I would love to have some more!

Right now I have 10 turkey eggs and 14 chicken eggs in the 'bator, the chicken eggs about 1/2 "cooked." Do you recommend I wait until these have all hatched before buying the guinea eggs, or, in your opinion, would it be OK to start the guinea eggs now?

It would depend on the type of incubator you are using, we use a GQF Sportsman and do staggered hatches all the time - (we have been hatching eggs since Jan!) If you are comfortable doing staggered hatches then why wait. If you want to wait until the eggs you have now finish that will work. We will be shipping for a few more weeks anyway, usually early June we quit shipping due the the heat.
