i used to think they were really ugly but i had only ever seen pics of the drakes, but then i got 5 hens and honestly they are just beautiful birds and the cooing sound they make is just so precious...i love the scovies now...

I LOVE my scovies!!! Haha they have sooo much personality

When I let my drake out he sometimes goes to the dam (every day when charlotte's broody), and if I dont have time to wait for him to go for a nice relaxing swim, I growl his name, and he turns and waddles back to the chooks again lol its so funny
I have too many stories about my muscovies to tell, but they are the best duck!! I think they're caruncled face is cuuute, suits my drake so much

Yay for scovie ducklings due soon!

I have 4 scovies...I love them .. my female is named lady gaga. we call them my little sleestacks(sp?) from the land of the lost because of their hissing. and I love the way they wag there tails ... I look beyond their looks ... my scovies have personalities

All of the above plus the major point that stands them alone - they are unique! No other waterfowl have their unique combination of characteristics including personality. And they are a pure breed in the true sense of the word. They may come in different shapes & sizes, but they are all still Muscovies. I think another point that really stands in their favour is that they are so quiet, both noise-wise & temperment-wise. No crazy flapping hysteria from the sedate Muscovy. I usually have to watch that mine aren't underfoot when walking amongst them. They really are a people friendly bird. And no need to worry about close neighbours with this breed - neighbours certainly won't know your mussies are there from the noise they make.

How can you not like a duck that does this with your dogs?

I miss this guy, Mr Duck vanished the week before Thanksgiving. The mink, may it NOT rest in peace, probably got him.

The thing that scares me the most about muscovies are the drake's massive talons of death. A 4 week old runner duckling can do some serious damage to you when you're holding them (I have the arms and legs to prove it!) so I can only imagine what a massive muscovy drake would do to me! "What's that on the floor? Oh it's just my left arm and leg..."

Talons? I've never studied the mussie drakes at the lake but I wouldn't dare pick up a duck with talons.

Oh did I mention that as well as flying they are also excellent climbers!! How many breeds of domestic ducks can actually climb a fence? LOL

when i take my little girl downstairs, she won't let me hold her on the way up, she likes to climb up the stairs HAHAH
