I had a possum get into our coop last fall and killed a couple birds. This spring, I was at tractor supply grabbing some feed and I saw they got in a shipment of Buff Orpington pellets that were just day old. I knew I had to replace the hens that the possum took out, and I just happened to have one of my Buff orpington hens go broody, so I decided to grab 4. Later that night, I pulled the switcheroo with the broody hen, and left her to raise them. They're around 8 weeks old now, but they look⁹

nothing like any of the Buff orpingtons I've had previously. They're white, with the occasional black feather on their back or wing. And they're extremely skittish. All the other Buff orpingtons I've had previously have also been fairly tame and docile. These chicks remind me more of Leghorns. Are these actually Buff Orpingtons, or did TSC mis label them?Sorry about the picture quality, they won't even let get close enough to take a picture unless I catch one.

Not Buff Orpingtons for sure.

Hoover's, where TSC gets their chicks, sells California Whites: https://hoovershatchery.com/CaliforniaWhite.html

I have one California White and, though she's far from being a cuddle pet, I love her bold, independent personality and her daily 65g eggs.
