Hello all! My late fall clutch has begun hatching and I have a very pretty rare baby. My roo is a paint silkie, and to my knowledge so was my hen but im unsure of how I got this pattern. It almost looks like a partrage but I don't have the gene in my flock.Thinking he got with another hen and my broodys grabbed the egg. My hens that I'm positive one is mom are a paint silke, millie calico cochin, blue laced red wyandotte. All chickens are pictured.

No. @Amer might know enough to be of some assistance. But I don't see how a partridge chick came from any of the birds but the Silkies. I feel quite confident that White Silkies are just white on top of goodness knows what. And as Paint is White with some other stuff I'm sure Partridge could still be under the white.

To the OP, what kind of comb does the baby have? When it starts to feather out it will be pretty obvious if it is pure Silkie or not. Did you not check the eggs under the broody? A Wyandotte egg would be pretty obvious in that set of potential mothers.

Recessive white silkies often “hide“ the partridge color. Not uncommon for even two white birds to produce a partridge chick.😊
You will be able to tell what feather type this baby has when it is about six days old. You will be able to see it in the wings.

Both silkies are paint, and my eggs were hatched under my hen so I tried my best to leave them alone checking at night to see what was growing. My wyandotte and rooster have already made me a baby and she looks like this. So far looks like fuzzy silkie wings but only been about 5 days since she hatched.
