What is my Golden Retrver thinking? Her babies?

We have six chicks and our dog Jenny is very protective and interested in the babies, should we be concerned? She only watches and smells and licks them gently..

My German Shepherd does the same thing. When we let the chicks in the yard to scratch around, she lays right by them and protects them hawks and our cat. Some dogs just feel the need to protect smaller, weaker animals. But mine is a German Shepherd, a herding breed. yours is a Golden Retriever, a bird dog, hahahaha.
