What is one breed you will always keep in your flock?

I think I would like to always keep a couple of buff orps. I like their color. I like how friendly they are and I like how they go broody.

On that note a whole flock of buff orps sounds like a nightmare lol.

@Yze check out the Livestock Conservancy breeder list for Dominique’s. Breeders should have what your mom remembers, the breed standard hasn’t changed. Hatcheries breed for quantity not quality, so avoid them if you want correct birds. (I say as someone who has hatchery birds and is happy with them but I don’t need/want SOP birds)

I've all ready hit the Livestock Conservancy as I am also interested in Lippitt Morgan horses. Have a couple breeders bookmarked. But thanks for the tip anyway.

I can’t decide between Orpingtons and Eggers. I love the gorgeous eggs but I also love the personality of the Orpingtons.

Delawares as a sustainable healthy dual purpose breed. Some will set so no power needed if off grid. Mine are so friendly that If I look the other way one is on my shoulder and another trying to land on the other shoulder.
