Mine was a little BB red rooster that my daughter used to have. We called him Jim Dandy. He was an extremely beautiful bird by any standard and even won the grand champion at our county fair. Dandy was trained so that if you held out your arm horizontally, he would fly up on it and walk back and forth and crow. He would even perch on top of your head and crow if you let him. When we got out of the BB business, we sold him, and I have regretted that. Never be another like that little bird.

She was just an Easter Egger, but she was the very first chicken I got as my own. She was completely pecked up, missing all of her back feathers, and stuffed into a tiny cage at the chicken swap where we got her. She looked miserable and was stuck in the cage with another hen who was pecking her. She was pretty mean at first, as I assume there was rough treatment and mean hens at her last home. Once she settled in, she would perch on our arms and eat out of our hands and let us hold her and pet her. I think she was pretty old when we got her, but she lived a full year with us, and died a few weeks ago suddenly.

Edit: forgot to say, her name was Concertina, after the razor wire... She pecked hands with her sharp beak when we first got her.

I have had four-one was a mixed hen from when I was a tiny child. She was the only one in the coop that would allow me to hold and pet her as a kid. As an adult, I have added three hens to that list. One was an Amerecauna who would fly up and sit on my shoulder. The other two have been turken hens that were incredibly sweet, gentle, and intelligent. They both loved to be held and petted and would eat from my hand. Great, great birds. I will always be a fan of turkens thanks to those two ladies!

I think my favorite hen is a Buff Orpington. I've never seen her peck another hen. She's very motherly toward the others. She's first up on my lap if I sit down and has a deep voice like Lauren Bacall. If I could only have one breed, I'd get a bunch of "Daisys".

I have a Buff orpington hen I call Stella....Absolutely my most favorite! I have some month old chicks as well, and I have a red sex links that I really like too.

Mine is a Roo named Juner. I got him when he was 2 months old and his name was Sarah. He would sit on my lap and put his head under my arm and just coo up a storm as he was petted. He learned that the shovel meant worms, if he heard it, saw you pick it up, or even looked at it, he was there. It got to where he would even jump on it if you'd drag it and ride to where the digging was to be done. I sure miss those days, He came of age and has nothing but his Ladies on his mind now.

I don't have any current chickens (told the guy at the feed store today they need to get on the ball and get some pullets in! they are holding up progress!). We did have chickens when I was growing up though. My mom isolated a hen and 11 biddies and I would haul the chicks around in my baby doll carriage. 2 became like dogs - Copper and Lucas (hen and roo). Describing them here folks said they sounded like black sexlinks.. my mom says they were barnyard mutts.

My WCB Polish, Rix. For the moment - Still waiting for my Marans, Ameraucanas, and Araucanas to mature.

Rix is the best though - She's the tamest, most friendly, hardiest, most "standard of perfection" beautiful, and just the best! I've been in love with her since she was a wee little chick, and was still in love when she was lost in a forest for days.
