...what is scratch?

I think the scratch grains vary a bit, even with the same brand. Mine is always cracked Corn with Milo, and then sometimes wheat and what looks like Oats added. This last couple times they added a lot of cockleburs to the mix.

Scratch: Dry feed scattered on the ground for poultry to find by means of raking the thresh with claws and beaks.

The different names scratch goes by here:

Scratch - ground corn, looks like corn meal
Chops - cracked corn
Scratch grains - cracked corn mixed with other grains and seeds
Black Rooster (what I feed for scratch now) - is a gamebird feed, includes cracked corn, other grains and seeds, plus BOSS, molasses, feed pellets and vitamins and minerals.
