I lock my chickens up at night. When I let them out in the morning, one of my buffs, Tiffany, flies from the door to the end of the run (about 8 feet) and smashes into the hardware cloth. She falls to the ground, gets up, and walks away unharmed. I'm worried she'll hurt herself or another chicken. What can I do to stop her from doing this or prevent her from hurting herself or another chicken? I don't want to clip her wings.

This morning I opened the tiny door and went to the other end of the run. When I saw Tiffany's head pop out of the door, I was ready When she flew out, she was midair for a few seconds and then crashed into my chest. I grabbed her gently but firmly and put her on the ground. She happily walked off to join her friends and eat some bugs.

Redesign your pop door exit with a cave of fencing over it so they have to walk down a ramp or jump down. Or stack a couple of hay bales in front of it so she can't fly out, but has to jump down to go around the bales.

Maybe after a few times she will wait for you. Good catch.

Mine do that too, but have 30 feet to decelerate before crashing.
Maybe hang a sheet a foot or so off the end of run to buffer her crash?
Just the visual might stop her from crashing.

Are these new to you birds?

I've had them since they were 2 days old, and they are 9 weeks
Oh just babies still....testing out their wing feathers.
Hard to slow em down....hay bale and/or bed sheet hung.

Do you have crowding/bullying issues?
Maybe she's in a panic trying to get away from another bird?

Well sometimes her brother Sebastian will push her out but he's usually the last out and she's in the middle
