I didn't know about oil glands until I saw on BYC someone had a chicken with an infected one! I closely observed my chickens and sure enough, I see them use it to preen. They rub their faces in it. All my research into chickens and I had no idea!

Whew I’m so glad I’m not alone on that! I would watch them twist their little head around to their backside area, but I thought they were just itchy lol. I really wish I hadn’t made a fool of myself at the vets office. I was leaving, and ppl in the waiting room was asking if my chicken was ok. I’m like yeah she’s fine. I’m just an idiot lol.
