What is she doing?

I bought all my hens from a big chicken guy down the road... he had tons! Mostly Bantams... and a handful of standard breeds. Anyway,
They have all been staying on the front porch since DH keeps making changes to the coup/ has not had much time to work on it. Well there is a barrel out a little from one corner where this one hen keeps digging in the news paper, and she's been doing it now for over an hour... before that she boldly walked into the house when I opened the door to go out...dogs and all...I don't know what she's thinking?

She might be tring to lay an egg.

She may be looking for a good nesting spot to lay an egg, OR she could be looking for a good spot to create a facsimile of a "dust bath."

she laid an egg... now I know who's laying the light color eggs.. The others are pretty brown, and hers are tinted but very light! and it was still warm when I investigated! WOW! Thanks for your help!

Give a little box with some wood chips or straw in it. if its got a lid and you cut a big hole in the side so much the better. Tuck it some where "safe" and put her in it to show here where it is. If she needs to lay an egg she'll propably go back to it. Much better than to have her start leaving them all over the yard. Good luck
