So that classic sound a chicken makes in cartoons "Ba Ba BAGAH!"...

I heard that today for the first time from a 16 month old Orp. She was in the nest but already laid her egg and was sort of standing/sitting. A new silkie I got a few days ago was in the next nest over standing and staring at her. They do not get along!

Was she making those noises because she was irritated? It was soooo loud and she was doing it forever

Just curious what that sound means to them

It's called the egg song!

It means "I've finished laying - Where is everyone!?"

it can also mean:

"Look at what I did!"

or

"I was just scared and now I'm not! HA!"

and whenever one starts doing it, they all can join in. My roosters especially like singing the egg song!

HA! I heard of the egg song but I didnt know that was it and I thought it was something they did before they laid the egg.

Well she must have been SUPER proud because it was SUPER loud! I had to run over because I thought someone was getting bullied.

The chick was staring at her like. "What theeeee....."
