I got 4 chicks about 2 months ago. I was told it was 2 barred rocks and 2 buff Orpington. Well the 2 are definitely barred rocks and 1 is definitely a buff Orpington. But one of them is dark brown and I’m not sure what she is. Can anyone tell me?

Looks like a mutt. But with the yellow legs it indicates that even IF one of the parents was a buff Orpington that the “buff Orpington” parent was mixed. I would guess that that chicken has some Rhode Island Red in it.

By having yellow legs it means it has no genes for white legs because white legs are dominant. Buff Orpington standard calls for white legs.

My guess would be some sort of production red (rhode island red stock), I had a similar situation recently. The red chick should have looked much different than the buff orpington chick. Buff orpington chicks are the classic yellow chick, while that red I am guessing was darker and had a dark beak. Should be a nice layer and good disposition

They looked the same when they were chicks, that’s why I was surprised when she started getting darker than the other one. I’m not worried about it, she’s still pretty.

The chick has columbian pattern at the neck.

Likely someone was making their own red sexlinks and may have used a Delaware or other breed with columbian pattern
