Just had this one brought to me. Any ideas on what she is? Pictures don't show well enough, but her coat looks like my black australorps, black with green iridescence and then she has some gold in her chest feathers. Any ideas at all???

Okay, Black sex-link. What does that even mean? So, sex-link is the breed...and she's black, so black sex-link? And why is it called that, sex-link? And what are their characteristics? I have read that they are hardier and highly productive. Anyone have experience with this?
THANK YOU!

BSLs are great! they are very good layers, mine laid 6 eggs a week! i don't know much about the "breed" it's self, but, i do know that they are a RIR roo and a BR hen crossed.

A black sex link (also called Black star) is a cross between a Barred Rock Female (hen) and a Rhode Island red or New Hampshire red male. Its done because it makes very easy to sex chicks (males always have a white spot on the top of their heads while females do not). Egg laying potential is also supposed to be very high at first but drops off more quickly than other breeds. We got a BSL in a pair that were supposed to be Australorps and she is easily the most friendly of any of our pullets. I have read that they can be somewhat variable in terms of personality, though.

Black Sex-link..
Here is a good post on Sex-link chickens https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=261208...
A
Black Sex-link is a non-barred male over a barred female..
Some examples would be --
Rhode Island Red rooster x Barred Rock hen cross,
Gold Laced Wyandotte rooster x Dominique hen cross,
New Hampshire rooster x Cuckoo Marans hen cross,
Buff Rock rooster x Barred Rock hen cross.
