this is sofia...
she laid one tiny egg about 1 month ago.
she hatched mid december.
what is she?
she is not social with humans, she is not mean, just not as curious and friendly..
we still love her.
but, what is she!!!
thank you!
thank you for answering!
and thank you, i agree that she is a gorgeous bird.
our gardener asked if she was a good layer, i said no.
he said, "you know what you need to do?"
(i thought he was going to give me a golden secret)
"make a good soup."
well, i don't eat chicken, and she is far too pretty...
Some birds just take a little while to catch their laying stride. Does she free range or is she kept in an enclosure? It's possible she's hiding the eggs on you.
i would go searching the yard for eggs then because leghorns are great layers and it look like you free range her which means she may not be using the nest boxes that you provide and if not you need to in close her in with the next boxes until she learns that thats were she needs to lay...
i would look under the bushes first. we had a hen who used to free range and would lay in a 5 gallon bucket and every time we would find her nest she would change nesting sites and we would be on the hunt again for her eggs
thank you!
i have been searching, finding nothing.
i put her in the box today, she was CRAZY! then suddenly, silence...
so i checked on her and there was a tiny, half dollar size beautiful white egg!
tomorrow, will do the same!
