What is sticking out of my hen's behind?

I had a fairly young hen with prolapse several years ago. Her eggs were huge and more round, than oblong.
I read up on it, and it was stressed that she needed to be forced into a molt, and to stop laying if if were ever to heal, so I brought her in the house, used the Preparation H pushed it back in, kept her in a dark place, reduced her feed to only scratch grains. I had to help get those last couple of eggs out of her. After a time she healed, and I put her back with the other chickens. She started laying again sometime later, and after each egg, you would see that she had prolapsed again, but within a short time, (minutes) it would go back in on it's own.

I hope that helps. This happened maybe 8 or 9 years ago, so I don't remember specific details anymore.

Thank you, it does help. I was wondering what to feed her that would help keep everything working...I have her in a medium sized dog crate in my garage away from the others and have covered the crate partly with a beach towel for darkness. I put a 1 qt waterer and some feed pellets in with her because I wasn't sure the scratch grain would give her what she needs nutrient-wise. It seems to be working so far, no eggs yet today and it looks like it is still up in there but has come out just a tad as it is not quite flush like it should be, but a little poop is on that spot now. Not sure if I should remove her from the crate and bathe again or just leave her as is for another day. She is one of my girls who does not like to be handled (a Golden Laced Wyandotte) so it will surely be another chore to wash her but if I need to, I will. Thanks everyone for your feedback!
