Yesterday was day 18, I notic d when I went to put the chicks in lockdown that one had pipped already so I quickly finished and left them alone. Today the little thing has come completely out of its shell but has this mass near its rear end. Is it ok? Gonna die? 50/50 chance? This is my first time hatching eggs. And I have 9 out of 3 1/2 dozen that made it to lock down. Most of them never even started to develop. And a couple had the blood ring. Was hoping these 9 that made would hatch with no issues.

Looks kinda like unabsorbed yolk. Is the mass yellow? If it is they recommend wrapping in a wet cloth and putting in a cup to keep the yolk from rupture. If it ruptures the baby could bleed to death.

I have never had an unabsorbed yolk so this is completely from reading other posts and articles. I could be completely wrong. Best of luck!

It’s pink and maybe a little yellow, and I can see blood veins in it.

Its also cover in what looks like yolk and made an awful mess when it hatched. Chirping and moving around though like I would think it should.

You should get a piece of paper towel and put her on top of if and leave her in the incubator till she drys. After she drys make she does not get dirty or it could lead to mushy chick disease

So I did that and then took it out because it dried to the paper towel and stuck to her. How long before she totally absorbs it? It’s getting smaller.
