What is the 1588 hovabator made out of?

Yes the Hova Bator is 100% styrofoam.

Wish it were plastic foam filled, it would be easier cleaned.

If you know some one who plays with radio control airplanes get them to coat it with monokote film. They are so simple to clean and sanitize once this is done.

It does come with a plastic tray that holds the water that protects part of the styrofoam bottom. I use mild soap a sponge and rub very lightly to remove most (but not all) stains. The I bleach to disinfect and rinse many time to get any bleach smell or residue out.'

I figure careful care and washing will extend the life of the bottom, but it won't last forever. When it gets too far gone, I will replace the bottom. I think a replacement bottom costs about $14.

A friend told me to get a tube of 100% silicone tub and tile and spread it very very thin in the lower half of the Bator and let it cure for 4-5 days. NOTE:

I have not tried this! However I'm going to get a piece of "scrap stryofoam" and try it out if it works, I'll use it on two 1588's, that are being shipped this week. I'll post as soon as I know something.
