What is the best “guard” bird

I have an elderly family member that is planning to return to her native Nigeria. She has asked me for advice about getting maybe Peahens to protect her property. My first thoughts were Emu or geese What do you all think? Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Geese aren't guard birds and emus have a steep learning curve. I'd say peas or guineas. Guineas are also somewhat native so they should be somewhat easier to get.

Protect her property from what? Get a pair of geese, goose and gander. You'll have an alarm for sure, possibly an attack dog depending if the gander feels like he, his goose, or his flock is threatened.

Peacocks are usually good alarms at night. They get up in the trees and start their loud calls if anything moves in their yard.

I’m not quite sure, I have never been to Nigeria But just wanted to get ppls advice on here, I was thinking geese, they can be quite vicious here in the Uk, I just want to give her the best advice that I can.

If she is looking for a warning system against humans, guinea fowl or geese are relatively good alarm birds. A well trained dog is even better.

It depends on what she needs guarding, and what she needs guarding from. A good dog and a shot gun beats everything.
