My question is for the purpose of creating a self-sustaining meat bird/survival chicken... What chicken breed has the broodiest hens and multiplies themselves the quickest? Population growth is a key aspect for survival... which breed does it best? Opinions? Thank you, God Bless!

You might want to look into the heritage breeds if you're looking for a dual purpose breed that goes broody.

If you have an incubator, you can hatch the eggs even if the hen doesn't go broody.
I want them to reproduce on their own.

Honestly leg horns are pretty hardy surprisingly if you have the acreage and with a rooster they lay like crazy. Maybe a mix of leghorns with a silkie momma to raise them. Moonshiner knows more about leghorns and how they frequent the get broody if you want just eggs.

For a dual purpose I recommend australorp, wyandotte or maran breeds. Marans are chatty in my experience but lay better than wyanddottes. Have some orpingtons they are quiet but they do not have the same laying ability IMO than the others listed for a dual purpose heritage breed that I've dealt with.

If I want just pure number of eggs/chicks produced you would choose leghorns?
