what is the best brown egg layer out there for best egg production

Unfortunately the hybrids win the egg laying crown hands down. That is for the first 2-3 years. Then they begin to burn out fast. Your other chickens lay a bit less per week but lay a lot longer. So basically you need to decide if you want these long term or short term. If you want the hybrids, I vote for one of the sexlinks like the comet or cinnamon queen. They are fast egg laying machicnes. If you want long term I like the Astrolorps, Barred rocks and orpingtons. Gloria Jean

I have 4 RIR and 2 Australorps and get 4 to 6 eggs a day and did even thru the winter with just a light bulb for the 14 hours of light that help the chickens lay. I really like them both they are very nice birds and very mild mannered and not aggressive.

Each of my Delawares lay 6-7 eggs a week, every week. They laid at full production all winter with no lights or special measures (in Michigan). They slowed down to 5-6 eggs a week at the end of January beg of February, and then were right back at full production. Now that's a good layer. The only thing that slows them down is if they run low on water.

A few years back, I think it was in Denmark, they did a year long research and the Astroulpe laid 364 eggs in 365 days!
