Following. I’m trying to figure out the same thing! Currently feeding DuMor starter crumbles and looking toward making the switch. I was told DuMor isn’t the best and can cause their poops to be more loose and smelly. I have no experience prior to this
I find Chicken Feed is the best. My chickens could care less what they're eating as long as they are eating!
In seriousness, I've had good luck for many years feeding a mix of around 40% Pellets, 20% Scratch, 20% Scratch Grains, and 20% cracked corn (which sounds like a pain, but I basically have the same plastic cups in each bag and it's 2 cups, 1 cup, 1 cup, 1cup). They eat it all up and never had any digestive issues.
I have hens 1.5 to 4 years old.
I feed a Non-Medicated Starter-Grower feed 18% Protein with Oyster Shells in a separate container.
.
If Starter-Grower feed isn't available or old, I buy a All-Flock/Flock Raiser crumble 20%.
I like the higher Protein than most Layer feeds 16%, because I give my chickens a treat of Scratch Grains daily.
My first Flock of chickens started to Feather pick when I switched to a 16% Layers feed.
18% Layers feed is available but expensive.
If you won't give treats daily, a 16% Protein layer feed should be sufficient.
As for Brands, I like and use both Nutrena Naturewise and Purina Premium feeds. I also like BlueSeal feeds. All 3 have Pre and Probiotics. GC
