I was just wondering, what is the best brand of chicken feed for hens? Would like to know what others think.

I would recommend Dumor chicken feed at Tractor Supply it is in like a yellow bag. I would also recommend this chicken feed from J and J feeds and needs but i don't know if they have one in your area?? They have different kinds at J and J feeds and needs like Crumbles,Pellets, and Mash. My chickens love both of these kinds of feeds and they both give good egg production. Hope this helped you out!! They also have only Crumbles and Pellets at Tractor Supply. It seems to me that my chicken eat the Crumbles easier but that is up to you to decide.

The best brand of chicken feed is the one that keeps your chickens healthy, is available in your area, and meets your specific dietary goals for your chickens.

Price, availablility, organic or not, GMO or not, Soy or not, there are many, many variables and opinions. What works for some may not be what others want.

Most processed chicken feeds are considered to be balanced nutritionally for the bird. From starter/grower, to laying feed, much time and effort has been put into their formulations. Granules, grumbles, pellets, it all varys on what you and your chickens like.

Remember that chickens are omnivores. They can, will, and should eat a variety of seeds, plants, insects, minerals, and meat to be healthy and productive. Most commercial feeds are formulated to provide these nutritional needs, however many (myself included) lkike our chickens to get variety from other sources beside prepared feeds. Free ranging, kitchen scraps, all become part of our favorite feeds.

For layer ration, I prefer a medium to high protein content feed, with the protein derived from mostly animal sources if possible. I prefer loccally milled feed if possible. I mix my own scratch grains.
