New England.. the cold part.
We're thinking about spring already, and want to get some pet chickens for the 3 kids. (Yes, we already have egg laying chickens, and Yes, my kids are old enough to not break a chicken) I was wondering what the best, nicest, most friendly kind of chicken. What are your suggestions?

From my experience this year, the friendliest by far are buff cochins and araucanas - I got mine at Estes Hatchery. I can pick them up, pet them, and they come over to me/sometime land on me when I come in the coop. Even the buff cochin rooster I got is still a sweetie (this is at 3.5 months).

I agree, seramas and cochins make GREAT pets

Any chicken will if they are raised right! If you want them to be indoor birds you should probably go with bantams, but if you want MORE eggs (can never have enough!) I'd go with some nice docile standards, like Australorps, Welsummers, Delawares, or Orpingtons.

Hands down our friendliest is our black crested polish hen. She is just a sweety (probably because she can't see!)

I have only had Buff Orpingtons but they are the sweetest chicken I have ever been around. And they are our pet layer chickens. they jump in your lap for a massage and come running when you go outside to see what goodies we may have for them lol.
PS they sometimes follow us around like puppy dogs so sometimes I watch them following DD11 and tell her she has 12, 2 legged, puppies following her LOL
