I thought that I would post an update, since I shipped my eggs and the buyer received them today. 2 eggs out of 24 broke and she was happy!
I asked her what I should have done differently and she said that they were packed great, she was impressed and said only 2 eggs breaking is better than usual. She's very excited and happy. What a nice customer!
I should have asked sooner about how to pack, so that I could have ordered some of that foam etc. As it was, I had to use what I had in the house.
I wrapped each egg in toilet paper, put them in cartons, put bubblewrap on top, taped the cartons. Lined a "if it fits, it ships" box with bubblewrap, put the cartons snugly inside & filled the box with rice, put bubblewrap on top & taped that box. Took the next size up box, lined it with bubblewrap, put the smaller box inside, put cut up egg flats on the sides & bubblewrap on top. At this point, I couldn't get the top flaps on the box to close all the way. So I took it to the post office & asked for help. We had to take the top sheet of bubblewrap off to get the box to close. She out so much tape on that box, there was no room to write on it. I had to use a label.
The 2 eggs that broke were both in one end of one of the cartons. I don't see how that happened.
I was so glad to get so much response to my question. Next time I will be better prepared, thanks to you all.
