What is the breed and gender of this chicken?

I lean towards pullet - I just think these Wyandottes are tricky with the combs and wattles. Nothing else about that chicken screams roo.

Is there a color pattern or something in Wyandottes that determines roos or pullets? What else can tell a roo from a pullet in a Wyandotte?

I have read that males tend to have a bit more white on the shoulders (kind of like barred rock males having more white than the females). I don't know if that is really true or not, but the SLW I gave away was very suspicious very early on - in the 1st and definitely by 2nd week had a very big red comb and "he" was very slow to feather. "His" shoulders are growing in more white, but still waiting for confirmation until he's a bit older (~8-9wks). You will likely have to wait for the hackle and saddle feathers around 12-13 weeks of age to further your suspicions either way. I guess what I am saying is that it is too difficult at this stage and that everything is guessing with the SLW

Actually they also have more white on their backs in addition to that.

Not sure when they start getting different patterns than a female..

Your chick looks very feminine in the face to me. I really do think it is a pullet.

Sexing them on their comb/wattle development is not always reliable. I was questioning mine, but I had nothing to compare her to.

These are not my pics/not my chicks, but they illustrate the point I was trying to make. The shoulders are white - these at 7 wks. I wish I had the pics of my 8 wk old, but even at 3-4 weeks, the feathers on his shoulders had a lot more white in the center (esp compared to wing feathers), whereas my female's feathers initially had the approximately the same amount of white in the center of the feathers on the shoulders and wings (but as they lose their "baby" feathers, they fill in with more white in the center). I don't know how often this occurs, it just seems to be a common enough to notice a pattern
