Is there a color pattern or something in Wyandottes that determines roos or pullets? What else can tell a roo from a pullet in a Wyandotte?I lean towards pullet - I just think these Wyandottes are tricky with the combs and wattles. Nothing else about that chicken screams roo.
Actually they also have more white on their backs in addition to that.I have read that males tend to have a bit more white on the shoulders (kind of like barred rock males having more white than the females). I don't know if that is really true or not, but the SLW I gave away was very suspicious very early on - in the 1st and definitely by 2nd week had a very big red comb and "he" was very slow to feather. "His" shoulders are growing in more white, but still waiting for confirmation until he's a bit older (~8-9wks). You will likely have to wait for the hackle and saddle feathers around 12-13 weeks of age to further your suspicions either way. I guess what I am saying is that it is too difficult at this stage and that everything is guessing with the SLW
