When the word self is used it means a solid color. No patterns can be found in the bird.

self black a solid black bird.

self white a solid white bird

self blue a solid blue bird that has an even color of blue all over the bird. The bird does not have black edging or black lacing on the feathers.

blue uneven blue color- males have a black or dark blue pyle region while females will have a black or dark blue head and hackle feathers, most have a pattern on each
feather of a black edge or a black lace., also called andalusian blue

Blue is blue with lacing and does not breed true 100% of the time, blue to blue matings will result in 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash.

Most often self blue is used to describe the lavender gene. It breeds true and there is no lacing on the feathers.
