What is the difference between slow and fast cornish?

Thanks greyfields, I had NO idea how involved the breeding is, all so interesting. So as far as feed goes, a slow cornish takes about 4 weeks longer to grow so is the feed about the same or would you come out ahead $$ wise on a fast cornish.

Feed is the same, assuming they have identical FCR's. You are exchanging crop length (duration) for allegedly better disease resistance.

But, I've seen people have all the same problems with slow Cornish that they do with the jumbos.

I also grew the slow cornish from Privett and absolutely love them. I slaughtered most at 14 weeks. I have three hens left which I'll leave a few more weeks until a few of the Buff Orpingtons are ready to go.

They are a hybrid, but not as fast as the CX. I had absolutely no health problems with mine.

Also, when I took mine to the processors (3$ a bird - can't beat it, and they are USDA and humane inspected

) they looked so much better than most of the other CX that were waiting there. Part of that is that I grow them like pets probably

And, most importantly, the first one was DELICIOUS!!

I will definitely grow them again.
