What is the difference in EE's and Ameracaunas ??

My hen does have slate gray legs. They aren't greenish or yellow. Her eggs are blue. Are all blue eggs colored all the way through? I have been meaning to ask that question. I noticed when I crack my blue eggs it is blue on the inside of the shell. When I crack a brown egg it is white on the inside. Is that normal for it to be blue on the inside shell too? I doesn't matter to me if she is Ameracauna or EE I LOVE the BLUE EGGS. It so much fun to open the nesting box and have all different colored eggs.

Yes, blue eggs should be blue all the way through. Brown and white ones are white on the inside though. Green eggs are blue on the inside, however the deeper/darker the green, the deeper the blue inside because of the extra brown pigment on the outside causing the green to change.

Thanks for that information Illia. How do you get the olive colored eggs? I was told could use a BCM hen and Ameracauna Roo? Or the other way around?

I am just getting into chickens only had them a couple of months. But I am trying to learn all I can. We are gonna build a barn this spring and I am gonna try my hand at raising BCMs, Lavender Orps, Buff Orps, Black sexlinked just for fun, Would like to get some laying the olive eggs. it is an adventure and I am enjoying every minute !
Would love to have some true Ameracaunas !

Any blue or green layer crossed with any dark layer such as Marans. The darker the better. The green egg in my avatar is just from F1 too, - second gen gives even darker eggs verging on a more ripe-overripe avocado skin color.

Make your own black sex-linked chicks :)
Either a Rhode Island Red or a New Hampshire cockerel may be used and Barred Rock Hens. Both sexes hatch out black, but the males have a white dot on their heads. Pullets feather out black with some red in neck feathers. Males feather out with the Barred Rock pattern along with a few red feathers.

But a Blue egg Rooster is easier to play with... since he can be mixed with any color laying hen and will make EE's, OE's and Pale blue EE's

You can do sex-linked Olive Eggers too

Cuckoo or Golden Cuckoo Marans hens, even Crele Penedesenca hens with any color EE or Ameraucana or even Araucana except barred/cuckoo/white.
