Had a Buff Orpington hen once catch a small snake. About eight to ten inches or so. She decided to swallow it as-is still writhing madly. It was quite a sight watching her trying to get it down like a thick strand of spaghetti that did not want to be swallowed! Took her what seemed like several minutes to get it entirely down. She walked kind of funny after that for a while which I interpreted as the snake wiggling inside of her.

one moring I was out in my back yard. I was wear sweat pants you know the kind with draw strings.... I feel the waste getting tighter and i look down and one hen was going to "get her worm" she was pulling with all her might! It was cute I wonder if i can get her to do it again so i can get a picture......

oh, yes indeed, they are smart. One of the (too many to count) funny things they've done wasn't done by "one of your pet chickens" as in the title line, but rather with unbelievable cunning. I'd fixed myself a lunch plate with meatloaf and a couple of slices of bread. My intention was to have a nice lunch outside while watching my chickens go about their lives. When they saw me coming out with the plate, they developed their battle strategy. Alpha Team was to take up a position at my left flank. Bravo Team was to take up a position at my right flank. Charlie Team was to employ the diversionary tactics. It went off with military precision. While Charlie Team (aka goofballs) were doing the most hilarious things to draw my attention, Alpha and Bravo teams moved with lightning speed. Alpha team grabbed the bread. Bravo Team grabbed the meatloaf. Then ALL THREE teams met at the rendezvous point to share the spoils of war and laugh at how easily they outwitted the enemy (aka Mama Food Person). The defeated enemy sighed, carried her empty plate back into the house, and searched for something else for lunch...
