I am planning on ordering silver and golden sebrights. I was wondering, what is their temperament? Are they "people chickens"? How do they act: skittish, loving, etc.?

i have only had the golden...very nice birds..esp the hens..i would take these to school for kids to see..(along with few other breeds) ..mine didnt go broody until after 3rd yr. the roo..well he was a pest..our own fault..acted like a dog & chased cars when they came up the drive..pecked at ankles as people got out of car..ran to house jumped on porch rail..shuttle dance at people..would try jumping at little kids..but we handled him alot..rubbing comb & wabblers..hand feeding.. thinking at the time we were getting him to be friendly..in fact..his bad behavior was from handling him so much.after learning our mistake too late, after that i wouldnt allow anyone to handle any roos..hens all they wanted. i think he lived about 9-10 yrs..thats 9-10 yrs of a over protective, bad behavior roo that family all hated !!! still have his offspring.

Out of curiosity, what caused the behavior that was your fault?

I thought we needed to hold the roos so that they would avoid doing that kind of stuff

We have three golden and they are wonderful. We got two of them from a fellow 4H friend and they bonded with the other sebright and other chickens perfectly. I would highly recommend them. My son showed them at the local 4H fair and they handle great as well.

That is a very positive for me!!!!! Do you have any roosters? I have to order straight run, so I would like to know how they are also.

I have 2 hens , did have a roo silver , and a golden hen ...
My 2 silver hens are AWESOME !! They are about 6 months ... they come eat out of my hand , they are the first to come "see" what Im doing ..... I dont pick them up ..... they didnt like it as a chick ..... BUT....

the golden ROO was skittish, Loud crowing and obnoxious ! The golden hen was skittish , and wouldnt even eat from my hand !! I gave them away .....

LOVE my silvers tho !!!

I have a golden and silver that I got from someone else. The silver has sprayed toes on one leg. They are the top of my hen pecking order...lol They are very quite, unless they want a nesting box that someone else has...but all of my hens are like that

I have two Silver Sebright roos and one pullet, and one Golden Sebright pullet in my flock of many breeds and sizes. The pullets are very sweet. They can fly, too, not just flap up to the top of a coop or fence. The roos are VERY "spunky" and much louder than you would ever imagine an eight-inch tall bird could be. They are my most frequent crowers, too. One of them flogs visitors' ankles pretty darned hard. I walk him backwards on a fairly regular basis to teach him *I* am the Boss of Him.
