Today's chicken of the day is JIM BOB

Jim Bob is a mille fleur silkie. He is very special to me. I got him when the his brother Kyle when they were little. A few months ago a tragic event occurred

Jim Bob had somehow managed to jump over the fence into the duck yard. He then proceeded to get a drink out of the duck pool and slipped! He must have been in there for at least five minutes, because when I seen him in the pool he was barely breathing. We had to do chicken CPR, and hit him on his back for several minutes. He was so close to dying, and his legs were pretty tough to move, almost stiff. That night I stayed up late holding him in a heated blanket. When I woke up in the morning he was standing! He's my little miracle. Some people look at chickens as just animals, but I look at them as miracles! They bring so much joy and energy to my morning, and I couldn't imagine life without them.

Yesterday we went to pick up Raven. We spent a few hours on the road, so when we got back everyone went to bed. This morning Raven was let out in one of our chicken yards. After 20 minutes of being in there, I went back to check on her. To my surprise Raven was no where to be found. I then started frantically searching high and low. About 30 minutes after, I finally found her. She was hanging out with my flock of other hens. Although I was really glad I found her, I was worried about her fighting with the other hens. After a while I finally caught her. She is now in a large dog kennel in the barn.

I also found out today that she's mixed with silkie?? She has extra toes on each foot

Today's chicken of the day is Barney!

Barney is 4-5 months old. She was the only daughter of my favorite chicken that sadly passed away. Barney is definitely a special "chicken." She grew up with geese, so she thinks she is one...She jumps into the water, eats with the geese, and comes running when I call the ducks. She is so sweet! She doesn't ever hang out with chickens. Instead, she hangs out with the two ganders she grew up with! They are giant now, but she isn't fazed!
