what is the key to a less smellier coop

I have a coop with an attatched covered run that has sand put down in it, and then they also have a free range area during the day where they can peck at the grass and the earth and what not. I thought the same thing.... they needed more than just sand...... but the sand is great for the indoor run which gets more use and would be smellier without the sand. And I use construction type sand with the small rocks and what not in it

That sounds good. thanks. I was thinking of building them some tractors to spend time in during most of the day when I am not home. I can't free range them without my supervision or they'll get into my neighbors garden!

How deep is your sand?

Great looking coop and run
you did a good job. I use pine shavings in my wood floor coop
with a dusting of Permectrin . but the other coop run we are in the proccess
of adding a solid roof to much rain and it washed the sand away.
and made a mess of the dirt floor and caused a smell.
so I am now trying the AG lime..under the wood shaving.
