What is the largest breed of geese? Largest in weight which is ??? pounds. And, largest in height which is ??? tall. I have heard contradicting stories from the Canada, Toulese, and Embden among one or two others. Has any body got the straight scoop? Thanks!

According to "The Book of Geese" by Dave Holderread, these are considered heavyweight breeds:

African (males 22-28 lbs, females 18-24 lbs)*
Embden (males 28-34 lbs, females 24-28 lbs)*
Production Toulouse
Dewlap Toulouse (males 26-30 lbs, females 20-24 lbs)*

Of course, this would be top of the line show stock with optimal nutrition and environment.

Some books I have read also consider the American Buff to be a heavyweight breed as well, males around 16-20 lbs and females around 12-16 lbs.

I haven't found height ranges, but have seen references to 3 ft tall Embdens and Africans

*weight ranges provided by "Domestic Geese" by Chris Ashton.

I have some Emdens from Holderread. I cannot imagine any goose being larger than those.

An African perhaps can get heavier, but it won't be anywhere near as tall.
