What is the norm ratio

Just one breed of coturnix.... All just different color phases. Under the feathers they are all the same bird.... Dozens of colors and patterns. Several not even available in the US....

Just a guess on my part, but I'd say the bird would either fall madly in love, or punch you in the nose.... :D Could go either way.....

EDIT TO ADD: See what I did there.... ;-)

So the color is a crap shot when it comes to putting different colors togather

No, not exactly a crap shoot. In fact its quite predictable for the most part, if the colors you start with are pure. But few really are. A bird that has brown feathers can carry one brown gene and one white gene. This is commonly known as a split. If the above split is breed with a pure white bird, a % of the offspring will be white and a % will be brown. Same with a white bird or any color for that matter..... It gets very complex once you have more than pure colors in the equation.... It gives me a headache but there are those that are very good at predicting the results... Myself, im ok with with the term "crap shoot" too. This is why I prefer my birds pure these days. Just keeps life simple....

So what if you have a white and brown bird and mix it with let's just say a red bird you think most would be a mix between the three colors like spoted jw I haven't raised coturnix before so I don't know much about them

That would depend on what recessive genes the parents carry and whether the colors they currently express are dominant or recessive. You may end up with all brown birds! Do a test breeding and find out.

I recently did a test breeding to see if one of my brown roos carried white. When crossed with a white hen they produced white chicks so now I know he carries the gene for white. If he didn't all the chicks would have been brown and carried the recessive gene for white.
