2020 has been a terrible year. I've lost more grow out birds then I can count. And so have many of the people I know. Most seem to be for no apparent reason so we refer to it as "the 2020 curse".
Armature necropsy have been performed as the cost of sending one for necropsy is prohibitive. Not all birds got a necropsy but the last 2 performed have had findings I, nor anyone else I know, have ever seen.
Symptoms where lethargy and sever weight loss. Little bit of snotty noses but not the horrible respritory symptoms of coughing or bubbling eyes. Treatment for worms, cocci, and respritory were given just in case. Nothing worked.
Were it gets even more strange is that these 2 birds are not from the same flock. They live in different counties. Almost 30 miles apart.
I was not present for first necropsy. Lots of fluid found in the body cavity. Most everything else seemed normal except the lungs. Bird about 16 weeks old.
Lots of fluid. In the upper left there are a few small yellowish balls.
The lungs were full of those little yellowish balls. About the feel of tapioca.
Second necropsy. This bird was a little older about 18 weeks.
As soon as it was opened there were small round lesions of some sort all over the inside of the body cavity.
Extremely adherent to the body. Smaller than a pencil eraser for the most part and very thin.
When a larger ball was found it was cut open. The same consistency all the way through but you can see there is a center.
Staining on the intestines from the gallbladder. And you can see the fluid in the body cavity.
And again the lungs. Absolutely full of those yellow balls.
I've done some research and found pictures of one thing that looked similar. I won't mention what it is so I don't sway opinions.
I don't know what this is. How 2 birds 30 miles apart died within days of each other of what appears to be the same thing.
Any ideas would be great.
