Why does my Roosters left eye suddenly look like this? Every other chicke is fine except this one. Do you know what it could be and how I can cure it? At first I thought it was blindness but this Rooster gas never been blind, and it seems as if his eye is swollen. Please help.

Sorry to hear he isn’t well.

Is the eye weepy or any sort of fluid draining from it? Can you see the eyeball?

I am a huge proponent of pain control so if you have any low dose aspirin you can give half a tablet twice a day. This will help with any pain and inflammation.

If you have access to a Vet you might want to have a visit and get some eye ointment. Most have a steroid and antibiotic in them which will help soothe the eye and surrounding tissue.

My biggest concern would be damage to the eyeball itself. But if no drainage then that is not likely. But try some pain/inflammation management with the aspirin.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

One other suggestion - check his ear on that side, my old Roo had an ear infection last winter, it caused the tissue. Above his eye and around his neck to become infected - some gentle cleaning, removal of matted feathers and some antibiotic ointment cleared it up in about 10 days.

Is he the only rooster? Could he have been attacked? Does the eye have any bubbles or foam, or gunk in it? Is there any sneezing or gasping? I would flush the eye with saline or eye wash, and apply a small dab of Terramycin or plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment at least twice a day.

The bulge isn't as big but it looks like this now. This yellow thing appearing, my rooster behaves normally but he clearly either can't see on his other eye or just very bad vision.

Can you place a warm wet compress onto his eye for a few minutes, to soften that piece of eye drainage/gunk? It is probably just crusted eye drainage. I previously posted to flush the eye with saline or eye wash (such as Bausch and Lomb Eye Relief from a pharmacy.) Then apply either Terramycin ointment from the feed store or plain Triple Antibiotic/Neosporin ointment twice a day. If he seems to have a respiratory infection he may benefit from drinking Tylosin in his water for 5 days. Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. If you think he got pecked or something stuck in his eye, the eye ointment may be enough.

As eggcessive said try to cleanse the area, can you see the eyeball at all?

You can try at night when it’s dark and they are roosting, shine a flashlight to see if you can see the eye. If so do you see the pupils constricting.

Try the eye ointment and the antibiotics.

I will do that! Although when I went out today again I realized the bulge had decreased in size substantially, I can now see his eye, and I know he can use it decently since he now reacts to things he sees from that eye. I'll send a picture soon. Thanks everyone for the advice

So glad, eyes are always worrying.

If you had eye drainage, it would drip out and make a crust over your eyelid and all around. Warm water will dissolve it. The antibiotic ointment will help to keep it pliable while treating bacterial infection.
