what is this bird we found in our backyard ?

my husband has since this morning now built it a KILLER pen (cause he's like that) but we can't figure out what the heck it is ??

That is a Bobwhite, looks like a Snowflake Bob. He must have escaped from a nearby Bob keeper.

Oh thank you so much ! thats exactly what it is - well he's safe now my husband built a wonderful pen for him using all the suggestions here - doesn't surprise me we have a very old overgrown neighborhood with big backyards lots of different animal noises from our very eclectic canvas of neighbors - he was probably intended for dinner - we're crazy animal lovers so whatever his future holds he's safe now - seems to be providing great entertainment for our Aussie and our cat (very tight large pen - not to worry) he'd a been a goner if I hadn't happened to see him outside the window before my animals did - thank you SO MUCH for responding - this is an interesting website

Snowflake Bobs r still fairly new, very popular and much more expensive then reg bobs so gonna guess he was probably a breeder so neighbors might hear him calling and come looking. I would try and find him a mate. Quail r much happier housed with others of thier own kind. Make sure its a female so they dont fight. She dont have to be a snowflake just as long as she is a bobwhite. Breeding season is upon on us so he will b calling for a mate. I doubt very much that he was intended for dinner as it would b much cheaper to get regular ones for that. They probably paid alot to get thier start of the snowflakes.
